MAMA presents CrosxxxSing the Song a musical street performance by New York multidisciplinary artist Geo Wyeth. For four weeks Geo worked intensively with six talented teenagers from the vicinity of Rotterdam to create this special one-off performance in the public space.
Workshop series
Following Geo's performance character 'The CrosxxxSing Guard', Geo explores different moments of transition together with six teenagers, moments that are relevant in their adolescent perception. When do you cross, transform yourself, and become another? But also, should we cross? What if we leave binary distinctions and just stay in the middle?
MAMA selected six talented teenagers to practice, in a series of four workshops, the multi-voice song that Geo composed for this performance. From their own experiences, they themselves create a character that transforms during the performance, for which they work with costume designer and dragqueen Dennis Bijleveld on a costume and with Geo in the way they sing and move their bodies.

CrosxxxSing the Song
The result of the four workshops is shown in the one-off performance of CrosxxxSing the Song centered around the character of a crossing guard, which Geo showed earlier in his solo performance "Juice CrosxxxSing". "The CrosxxxSing Guard" brings people from one side to the other but always stays in the middle. "I SAID, DON’T LEAVE ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET / DO NOT LEAVE ME / IN THIS LIGHT!" Sings the CrosxxxSing Guard. The youngsters are challenged to choose their place and think about it in their performance.

Juice CrosxxxSing
"Juice CrosxxxSing" was featured at the Amsterdam Spring Performance Festival and on June 2, 2017 at Theater Frascati as part of the Amsterdam FLAM. After 10 September, the performance will continue at Tent Rotterdam and The New Museum in New York. Geo Wyeth was resident at the Rijksakademie between 2015-2016. Geo works with music, performance, installation and video and previously showed work at MoMA PS1 (Greater New York 2016), LA MoCA, The New Museum, New York Live Arts, The Studio Museum in Harlem, Boston ICA.
