MAMA trok het oude hoofdpostkantoor aan de Coolsingel op vrijdag 1 februari 2008 met groot materieel binnen, en op dinsdag 12 februari was alles weer spic and span aan kant. Daar tussen in lieten we zien hoe gevarieerd en energiek het kunstaanbod vandaag de dag is, via al die projectruimtes die op onze uitnodiging naar Rotterdam kwamen om zichzelf en hun kunstenaars te presenteren.
Deelnemers kwamen van heel heel ver weg (Cameroen, Los Angeles, Casablanca, Melbourne en Johannesburg), tot aan om de hoek (het Rotterdamse nieuwe westen, Den Haag en Breda) – en uit heel veel steden daar tussen in. De bijna 2.500 bezoekers die Project(or) in 5 dagen ’kunstbeurs’ bezochten waren ongekend gemêleerd voor een hedendaagse kunstpresentatie. Natuurlijk was het kunstveld benieuwd wat Project(or) in huis had, en mede dankzij actieve persvoering en aandacht (zie boven) kwamen er erg veel professionals, ook uit buurlanden. Extra leuk was de goed geslaagde actie met de Havenloods, die op zaterdag zo’n 200 Rotterdammers met kortingsbonnen binnen bracht. Ook de buitenpresentatie op het trottoir door K3 Project space uit Zurich, trok veel nieuwsgierige passanten bij ons naar binnen en de aantrekkelijk gehouden toegangsprijs van E 3.50 mocht geen belemmering heten. Groepen kunstacademie studenten uit het hele land, die gratis naar binnen mochten, het netwerk van MAMA en andere initiatieven, betrokken ambtenaren, galeriehouders en verzamelaars maakten het gezelschap compleet. Hieronder vast een kleine sfeerimpressie in beeld die we binnenkort aanvullen. En wat MAMA betreft: alle sponsoren, fans, bezoekers, vrijwilligers en deelnemers waanzinnig bedankt voor jullie vertrouwen en inzet! Volgend jaar doen we weer wat leuks tijdens Art Rotterdam!

On Friday February 1st 2008, MAMA moved into the former central post office on the Coolsingel with large material, and on Tuesday February 12th everything was spic & span once again. In the intervening time we showed the great diversity and dynamism of what art currently has to offer, via all the various project spaces that we invited to Rotterdam to present themselves and their artists.
Participants came from all around the world (Cameroon, Los Angeles, Casablanca, Melbourne and Johannesburg), and just around the corner (the Rotterdam nieuwe westen, The Hague and Breda) – and from many towns and cities in between.
The nearly 2.500 visitors who attended Project(or) in 5 days of ‘art fair’ were exceptionally mixed for a presentation of contemporary art. Naturally the artistic field was curious what Project(or) had to offer, and partly due to press releases and attention (see above) a great many professionals came, from neighbouring countries as well. Better still was the highly successful campaign in the Havenloods local newspaper, which brought in some 200 Rotterdammers with a discount coupon on Saturday. The outside presentation on the sidewalk by the K3 Project space from Zurich also attracted many curious passers-by inside, and the reasonably priced entry fee of Є 3.50 was certainly not a hindrance. Groups of students from art colleges throughout the country, for whom admission was free, MAMA’s network and that of other initiatives, the sponsors and officials concerned, gallery owners and collectors made the party complete. Below is a quick impression (for the time being) of the atmosphere in images, which we will complete soon. And as far as MAMA is concerned: to all sponsors, fans, visitors, volunteers and participants, a massive thank you for your confidence and efforts! Next year we’ll do something nice again during Art Rotterdam!
