Naast de Appel brengt MAMA sinds 2005 onder de naam ‘Mr Miyagi, Curating Tomorrow' ook een curatorial training programme voor jonge kunstenaars en academici die het vak van tentoonstellingsmaker ambiëren.
In deze pilot editie maakten zes Nederlandse deelnemers onlangs een tentoonstelling van eindexamenwerk uit de Benelux.

Op zaterdag 18 februari presenteerden deze 'Miyagi's' hun thematische tentoonstelling Spacequake in Zaal de Unie aan het publiek. Nadat zij hun keuze hadden verdedigd voor een panel van professionals ontvingen zij hun langverwachte diploma uit de handen van MAMA directeur Nous Faes. Het panel bestond uit Sue-an van der Zijpp (curator hedendaagse kunst Groninger Museum), Annie Fletcher (freelance curator en head of curatorial training programme de Appel) en Rein Wolfs (hoofd tentoonstellingen museum Boijmans van Beuningen). Het panel reageerde over het algemeen zeer positief en leverde objectieve feedback met hier en daar een kritische noot, wat natuurlijk voor deelnemers aan een dergelijk programma zeer leerzaam is.

De graduation-day was onderdeel van de ArtTalks, die MAMA ieder jaar in associatie met Art Rotterdam organiseert. Ook op het programma stond de verdieping van Family Viewing, een tentoonstelling over het familieportret en iPod Killed the Videostar, de tentoonstelling in showroom MAMA (te zien t/m 9 april).

Overige sprekers waren:Janine Rostron, Hannah Holland, Heidi Kilpelainen, Joke Alkema, Jemima Brown en Bert Sissingh. Laatstgenoemde hield een voordracht over zijn werk in het Engels met een Frans accent. Dit als artistiek protest op het feit dat de Arttalks geheel in het Engels werden gevoerd onder de inspirerende leiding van Deanna Herst.

For this recent pilot-edition, six Dutch contenders created an exhibition of final-exam work from the Benelux.

Saturday, the 18th of February they presented their thematic exhibition Spacequake to the public and they defended their choice of work before a panel of professionals. After their presentation the Miyagi's received their well-earned and long-expected certificate from the hands of MAMA's general director Nous Faes. The panel of professionals consisted of Sue-an van der Zijpp (curator contemporary art Groninger Museum), Annie Fletcher (freelance curator and head of curatorial training programme De Appel Amsterdam), and Rein Wolfs (head exhibitions Boijmans van Beuningen Museum Rotterdam). They responded with very positive feedback and some objective remarks, also a few small critical notes, but all this is of course very enriching for young contenders in such a program.

This ‘graduation day’ was part of the ‘ArtTalks’. Insight and reflection were also a part of the program; about the exhibition of family-portraits: ‘Family Viewing’ and ‘iPOD Killed the Videostar’ (the new exhibition at Showroom MAMA, on display till the 9th of April).

Other lecturers were: Janine Rostron, Hannah Holland, Heidi Kilpelainen, Joke Alkema, Jemima Brown and Bert Sissingh. The last mentioned held his lecture in English with a French accent. He did so as an artistic protest to the fact that the ArtTalks were all in English, lead by the inspiring Deanne Herst.
