DARK

De duistere kant van ons bestaan is zeker een van de meest intrigerende. Dit geldt zeker ook voor 'DARK' in Boijmans van Beuningen. In deze tentoonstelling staat de donkere zijde van ons bestaan en de fascinatie van de mens hiermee, centraal. 'DARK' staat model voor onze huidige zwaarmoedige 'state of mind' en presenteert recente ontwikkelingen in de hedendaagse kunst.

De werken, opgesteld in het oude gedeelte van het museum, zijn complex en verontrustend, de ruimtes onzuiver afgebakend. Van de tentoonstelling zelf werden wij echter allesbehalve down, de groepstentoonstelling is louterend in al zijn zwartgalligheid! Wij hopen bij MAMA nu al op een vervolg........'DARKER'.

MILLY’S MASERATI SHOW

De Rotterdamse kunstenares Madeleine Berkhemer is een ravissante verschijning in de kunstwereld. Zij heeft internationaal naam gemaakt met haar erotisch getinte pantysculpturen. Voor de tentoonstelling 'Milly's Maserati Show' in TENT heeft ze drie uitermate sexy auto's getransformeerd tot pantysculptuur. De Maserati, Lamborghini en Facel Vega staan ieder model voor Madeleine's quirky en ondeugende alterego's Milly, Molly en Mandy. Daarnaast heeft Berkhemer Otto Zitko, Ron van der Ende en Iris van Dongen uitgenodigd om aan de tentoonstelling deel te nemen.

Ga deze spannende show die lètterlijk heel weinig om het lijf heeft zien! Dit kan nog tot en met 23 april 2006.

FAMILY VIEWING LONDON

De eerste UK-episode ‘Family Viewing- The Dynamics Episode’ opent op 7 april 2006 in de CuratorSpace te London. Deze internationale tentoonstelling ging als pilot-editie in première tijdens Art Rotterdam 2006 in de stand van Showroom MAMA. Veel van de deelnemende kunstenaars zijn de MAMA-fans dan ook welbekend: Ari Versluis & Ellie Uyttenbroek, Helmut Stallaerts, Jemima & Dolly Brown en Risk Hazekamp.

Family Dynamics is een concept dat is voortgekomen vanuit het rijk der counseling, familie therapie en de wijdverbreide erfenis van psychoanalyse. Wat zich ooit afspeelde achter gesloten deuren, wordt nu door de bitch-slappers bij Jerry Springer en zacht sprekende predikanten van de ochtendradio, stevig gevestigd binnen de pop-psychologie. Wij zijn er allemaal aan gewend geraakt dat wij, individueel, misschien wel een aantal rollen spelen voor andere familie leden. Rollen die veranderen of opnieuw gecast worden, afhankelijk van de veranderingen en eisen van anderen.

DARK

The dark side of our existence is definitely one of the more intriguing. This is certainly the case for ‘DARK’ at the Boijmans van Beuningen. This exhibition focuses on the dark side of our existence and our human fascination with it. ‘DARK’ represents our present melancholy state of mind, expressed by recent developments in contemporary art. The works are situated at the old part of the museum, the spaces are impure and the works are complex and disturbing. The exhibition itself though didn’t get us down, on the contrary! This group-exhibition has the quality to move even when it’s morbid. At MAMA's we’re already looking forward to the sequel: ‘DARKER’.

‘DARK’ features works by Luc Tuymans, Rita Ackerman, Terence Koh and Juergen Teller and can still be seen till the 17th of April, 2006.

MILLY’S MASERATI SHOW

The Rotterdam artist Madeleine Berkhemer is a ravishing appearance in the art-world. She’s made name internationally with her erotically charged pantyhose-sculptures. For the ‘Milly’s Maserati Show’ exhibition at TENT, she transformed three very sexy cars into pantyhose sculptures. The Maserati, Lamborghini and Facel Vega are each modeling as one of Madeline’s quirky alter ego’s: Milly, Molly and Mandy. Berkhemer also invited Otto Zitko, Ron van der Ende and Iris van Dongen to take part in this sultry exhibition.

Go see this exiting show that sometimes literally has nothing to hide! It's open till the 23rd of April, 2006

FAMILY VIEWING LONDON

A first London episode, ‘Family Viewing - The Family Dynamics Episode’ will open at CuratorSpace on 7 April 2006. This international exhibition had it’s pilot-edition premiere at the Art Rotterdam Fair in the Showroom MAMA stand. Many of the participating artists like Ari Versluis & Ellie Uyttenbroek, Jemima & Dolly Brown and Risk Hazekamp, are well-known to the MAMA-fans.

Family Dynamics is a concept that has trickled down -and mutated whilst trickling- from the realms of counselling, family therapy and the broader heritage of psychoanalysis. Once used almost entirely behind quiet clinical doors, the bitch-slapping of Jerry Springer and quietly-spoken vicars of morning radio have put the concept firmly within a pop psychology. We have all become familiar with the idea that we may be, individually, the cast of a number of roles to other family members, roles that change or are re-cast in response to the changes and demands of others.
