Stick/Figure is een groepstentoonstelling waar de tekening centraal staat. Was het medium videokunst was zeer populair bij kunstenaars in de jaren tachtig, en werd deze opgevolgd door de fotografie in de jaren negentig,tekenen lijkt het medium te zijn waarmee de laatste generatie kunstenaars op dit moment zich uitten. Misschien niet verbazingwekkend want met minimale middelen (grafiet, krijt en houtskool en papier) kan een kunstenaar zijn / haar ideeën uitvoeren en relatief gemakkelijk complexe werelden creëren. Dit is goed te zien in de tentoonstelling Stick/Figure: de voorstellingen die de kunstenaars het MAMA-publiek voorschotelen variëren van surrealistische erotiek en pogoënd publiek tijdens een openluchtconcert in de jaren tachtig, tot noedel slurpende meisjes en desolate, overwoekerde stadslandschappen. De deelnemende kunstenaars in deze internationale groepstentoonstelling gebruiken het tekenen als hun belangrijkste medium om tot nieuw werk te komen en ze verkennen daarvoor de uiterste grenzen. Zij zijn afkomstig uit Duitsland, Engeland, Nederland en Amerika. Het werk is intuïtief door elkaar gehangen door curator Boris van Berkum. Gezamenlijk vormt het een grote driedimensionale tekeningen-installatie: een bijzondere groepstentoonstelling die de grote belangstelling van een generatie kunstenaars voor tekenen belicht. Stick/Figure is gedeeltelijk ook een do-it-yourself show. MAMA biedt haar publiek aan om op zondagen ook zelf te komen tekenen. Amateurs en professionals zijn allen welkom om van alles te tekenen. Geen inspiratie? Geen nood: MAMA heeft een aantal geweldige modellen gevraagd om voor het tekenend publiek te poseren. Maar een stilleven maken of uit het blote hoofd komen tekenen mag natuurlijk ook. Het publiek wordt op de zondagmiddagen begeleid door vakkundige kunstenaars. Aan het eind van de dag wordt een selectie gemaakt uit de oogst. Deze selectie wordt vervolgens een week lang geëxposeerd in MAMA. Inschrijven Open Teken Zondagen Doe mee aan de open teken zondagen: op 16, 23 en 30 oktober en op 6, 13, 20 en 27 november 2005. Tussen 13:00 en 18:00 uur is iedereen van harte welkom om onder begelieding van een professionele kunstenaar te komen tekenen naar model. De kosten bedragen 2,50 per uur. Dit is inclusief materiaal en koffie of thee. (N.B. Er is slechts plek voor 10 deelnemers per sessie van een uur; met vier sessies dus 40 per middag. Reserveren is daarom noodzakelijk.) Stick/Figure is a group exhibition in which drawing stands central. Just as video was a very popular medium with artists in the 1980's, followed by photography in the 1990's, drawing seems to be the medium through which a more recent generation of artists are currently expressing themselves. Perhaps this is not surprising given that with minimal materials -graphite, chalk and charcoal and paper- an artist can execute his or her ideas relatively easily, creating complex worlds. This is readily seen in the Stick/Figure exhibition: the offerings that the artists serve up for the MAMA public range from surreal eroticism and pogo-ing audiences at outdoor concerts in the 1980's to noodle-slurping girls and desolate overgrown cityscapes. The artists in this international group show use drawing as their most important medium to arrive at new work and to extend their exploration beyond the furthest borders. They are drawn from Germany, England, the Netherlands and America. The curator Boris van Berkum will hang the works in an intuitive manner. Together the works will communicate as a large three-dimensional drawing installation; a special exhibition that highlights the importance of drawing for a generation of artists. Stick/Figure is, in part, a do-it-yourself exhibition. MAMA invites her public to also come and draw on Sundays. Amateurs and professionals alike are welcome. No inspiration? No problem. MAMA has invited a few amazing models to pose for the drawing public. Whether you want to do a still life or a bare head, come drawing nonetheless. On Sunday afternoons, professional artists will guide the public. At the end of the afternoon a selection will be made of the produced works. This selection will be exhibited for a week in MAMA. Join Open Drawing Sundays Just do it at Open Drawing Sundays! On 16, 23 and 30 October and 6, 13, 20 and 27 November 2005. Between 13:00 and 18:00 everyone is heartily invited to join in a life drawing class (with model) under the direction of professional artists. The cost is 2.50 per hour session. This includes materials, coffee and tea. (N.B. There are only 10 spaces per hour session; with four sessions, thus 40 per afternoon. Reservations are therefore essential.)
