Een driedaags spektakel in Showroom MAMA
met kunstenaars AL + AL (Londen) en Dr. Fortune
Chicken (Eindhoven).
10, 11 en 12 december 2004.
MAMA gaat wegens reorganisatie dicht en opent geheel vernieuwd
haar deuren weer op 25 februari in het nieuwe jaar! Maar voordat
dit zover is, heeft MAMA nog een verassend, wonderbaarlijk
driedaags evenement op het programma staan: Inpakken en Wegwezen!
Op 10, 11 en 12 december kunt u in de showroom terecht om
u te verbazen over de video's van AL + AL, een Brits kunstenaarsduo
dat leeft en werkt in hun eigen special effects films. We
vertonen twee films van hun hand: Hard Drive (A:) en
Perpetual Motion in the Land of Milk and Honey.
In Hard Drive (A:) maken AL + AL een reis door, over en via
het internet in een zoektocht naar gestripte lichamen klaar
voor intimiteit.
Perpetual Motion in the Land of Milk and Honey gaat over AL
+ AL's grootvader James Brown, een gepensioneerd ingenieur
en uitvinder. De film simuleert zijn kweeste naar de schepping
van de eeuwigdurende beweging met als doel het genereren van
gratis 'power to the people'.
Tijdens een een telefoongesprek met het Lam Gods saboteert
Britney Spears deze poging om de wetten der natuurkunde te
doorbreken om vervolgens haar eigen jacht naar oneindigheid
te beginnen. Dat conflict resulteert in een serie alchemistische
gebeurtenissen, met een land overstroomd door melk en honing
tot gevolg.
AL & AL studeerden beiden cum laude af aan de
fameuze Londense St. Martins School of Art .
Ze waren eerder te gast bij TENT. en op het International
Film Festival Rotterdam.
Perpetual Motion in the Land of Milk and Honey is onlangs
uitgezonden op Channel 4 en beleeft in MAMA zijn Nederlandse
première.
Mocht u -na het zien van de indringende films, of om welke
reden dan ook- last krijgen van verwarring of wanhoop, dan
is de redding nabij, in de persoon van Yoad David Luxembourg,
a.k.a. Doctor Fortune Chicken. Deze Israelische duizendpoot
('supposed to be an artist', design metaphysician, uitvinder
van het winkelwagentjesracen en professioneel kussenvechter)
studeerde dit jaar af aan de Design Academy Eindhoven.
Luxembourg zal gedurende de drie dagen zijn succesvolle project
Fortune Chicken in showroom MAMA uitvoeren. U kunt op de sofa
van de Doctor terecht voor een goed gesprek, terwijl hij ter
plaatse zijn Fortune Chickens fabriceert. De gipsen kippetjes
zijn een variant op de bekende fortune cookies. In het kippetje
zit een toekomstvoorspelling oftewel 'fortune' die u in tijden
van verwarring en wanhoop nog goed van pas kan komen.
De kippetjes zijn -speciaal voor showroom MAMA- gemaakt in
een limited edition in de kleur MAMA-geel. Voor slechts 10
Euro bent u de gelukkige bezitter van een Fortune Chicken.
Voor uzelf of voor uw vrienden en familie. Leuk om te geven,
fijn om te krijgen.
U ziet het: twee goede redenen om op 10, 11 of 12 december
in de Showroom langs te komen.
Omdat de show slechts drie dagen duurt hebben we onze openingstijden
verruimd:
op de openingsavond, vrijdag 10 december kunt u van 19.00
tot 23.00 uur terecht,
zaterdag 11 van 13.00 tot 23.00 uur
zondag 12 van 13.00 tot 18.00 uur.

A three-day spectacular in Showroom MAMA
With artists AL + AL (London) and Dr. Fortune Chicken
(Eindhoven).
10, 11 and 12 December 2004
MAMA is undergoing reorganization and will re-open, completely
refurbished, on 25 February in the New Year!
But, before it's all over, MAMA has one more surprising, wonderful
three-day event in the programme: Packing Up & Leaving!
On 10, 11 and 12 December you can swing by the showroom to
be amazed by the video works of AL + AL, the British artist
duo who make and perform in their own special effects films.
We will be screening two of these works: Hard Drive (A:)
and Perpetual Motion in the Land of Milk & Honey.
In Hard Drive (A:) AL + AL make a journey, about and via
the Internet, in a search for stripped bodies ready for intimacy.
Perpetual Motion in the Land of Milk and Honey is about one
of the AL's grandfather, James Brown, an inspired engineer
and inventor. The film simulates his quest for the secret
of perpetual motion with an end goal of giving free "power
to the people". During a telephone conversation with
the Lamb of God, Britney Spears sabotages this attempt to
discover the laws of nature in order to further her own hunt
for infinity. This conflict results in a series of alchemistic
events, concluding in a land flooded with milk and honey.
AL + AL graduated cum laude at the renowned St Martins
School of Art in London. They have previously been guests
at TENT and have shown work on the International Film Festival
Rotterdam. Perpetual Motion in the Land of Milk and Honey
was recently broadcast on Channel 4 (UK) and will have its
Dutch premiere at MAMA.
If you still, after seeing these compelling films, have any
feelings of confusion and despair, for whatever reason, then
rescue is at hand in the form of Yoad David Luxembourg
a.k.a. Doctor Fortune Chicken. This Israeli jack of all
trades ("supposed to be an artist", design metaphysician,
proponent of supermarket trolley racing and professional pillow
fighter) completed studies this year at the Design Academy
Eindhoven.
Luxembourg will mount his successful project Fortune Chicken
for the three days in Showroom MAMA. You can stretch out on
the Doctor's couch for a consultation while he makes his Fortune
Chickens. The little plaster chicks are a variation on fortune
cookies. In the chickens is a little prediction for the future
- a fortune - that you can call upon during times
of confusion and despair.
The chickens are being made especially for Showroom MAMA in
a limited edition in the MAMA signature yellow. For only 10
euro, you can be the happy owner of a Fortune Chicken. For
you or for your friends and family! Nice to give; great to
receive.
There you have it: two good reasons to drop by Showroom MAMA
on 10, 11 or 12 December.
