(I Can) Feel the Pulse Opening: 27 August 2010 19:00 - 23:00 Artists: Emory Douglas (USA), Dzine (Carlos Rolon, USA), Hiphop Chocolate (USA), Patrick Martinez (USA), Jefferson Pinder (USA), Haruka Sakatani (JP), Huang Yulong (CN) Guest curator: Charlie Dronkers Van 27 augustus tot en met 10 oktober presenteert MAMA (I Can) Feel the Pulse, een tentoonstelling over de invloed van hiphop op hedendaagse kunst door gastcurator Charlie Dronkers. (I Can) Feel the Pulse legt de link tussen de origine van hiphop en de hedendaagse hiphopcultuur, verwijzend naar de oorspronkelijke proteststem van de zwarte onderdrukte bevolking van de Verenigde Staten, krachtig uitgedrukt in het iconische werk van Emory Douglas - de latere Minister van Cultuur van de Black Panther Party. Naast het revolutionaire werk van Emory Douglas wordt werk getoond van Jefferson Pinder, Dzine (Carlos Rolon), Patrick Martinez, Hiphop Chocolate, Haruka Sakatani en Huang Yulong. Special events: Aansluitend op de tentoonstelling verwelkomt MAMA Emory Douglas in eigen persoon. Douglas zal een lezing geven en een masterclass leiden. Voorbereidende bijeenkomsten op donderdagavond 16 en 23 september; masterclass vrijdag, zaterdag, zondag 24 t/m 26 september. Tijdens het Festival De Wereld van Witte de With (10, 11, 12 sept) presenteren kunstenaar Abner Preis en choreograaf Lloyd Marengo een gloednieuwe performance. Voor pers en afspraken: 010 2332022. (I Can) Feel the Pulse links the origin of hiphop to the current visual hiphop culture. (I Can) Feel the Pulse refers to the voice of protest of the repressed black population of the United States, powerfully expressed in the iconic work of Emory Douglas, who later became Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party. Emory Douglas' revolutionary work is shown alongside works by Jefferson Pinder, Dzine (Carlos Rolon), Patrick Martinez, Hiphop Chocolate, Haruka Sakatani and Huang Yulong. Special events: In connection to the exhibition MAMA welcomes Emory Douglas personally. Douglas will present a lecture in Rotterdam and a masterclass.
