MAMA start weer met de selectie voor een nieuwe lichting van het Rookies programma, MAMA's trainingstraject voor haar vrijwilligers.
In het Rookies trainingsproject wordt een selecte groep MAMA-vrijwilligers door de staf en speciaal ingehuurde professionals klaargestoomd voor ondersteunende functies in het kunstveld.
Van oudsher zijn vrijwilligers belangrijk voor MAMA, zij laten de tentoonstellingen en alle events die we bedenken slagen. Ze zijn MAMA-host, zorgen dat de showroom aan kant is, laten alles goed lopen tijdens een tentoonstelling en geven informatie over MAMA en de tentoonstellingen aan bezoekers van jong tot oud, uit binnen- en buitenland. Vrijwilligers verspreiden ook ons promotiemateriaal, verzorgen transporten in binnen- en buitenland en richten tentoonstellingen in samen met kunstenaars, (gast)curator en productieleiders.
Hoe gaat het MAMA-Rookies traject eruit zien?
In september start het project met individuele gesprekken met alle huidige en nieuwe MAMA-vrijwilligers. Op basis van motivatie, kwaliteiten, skills en interesse worden de geselecteerde vrijwilligers, die dan MAMA-Rookies heten, ingedeeld voor specifieke workshops. Deelname is gratis, maar niet vrijblijvend. Met andere woorden: MAMA investeert in jou, jij investeert in MAMA! Dit doe je door het traject te volgen en daarnaast een jaar lang gemiddeld vijf uur per week als vrijwilliger bij MAMA te werken. In het traject is plaats voor maximaal vijfentwintig vrijwilligers.
Vanaf september wordt er een serie workshops aangeboden. Voor alle Rookies is er de basisworkshop in- en externe communicatie. Vervolgens maak je een keuze voor een workshoptraject: educatie en publieksbegeleiding; het ontwikkelen en maken van publieksmateriaal of de workshop tentoonstellingsinrichting. Er komt wel wat huiswerk bij en er worden opdrachten gegeven die je in je eigen tijd moet uitvoeren. Wat er in de workshops geleerd wordt oefenen de Rookies in de praktijk, tijdens de projecten die MAMA het komende jaar programmeert. Alles wat in dat proces goed en fout gaat wordt besproken en geëvalueerd.
Iedere MAMA-Rookie die het traject goed doorloopt ontvangt ter afsluiting een certificaat. Deze geeft aan dat je volgens ons gekwalificeerd bent om bij een professionele kunstinstelling bepaalde ondersteunende taken goed te vervullen.
Hoe word je MAMA-Rookie?
Natuurlijk verwachten we dat je affiniteit hebt met het specifieke MAMA-karakter en de tentoonstellingen en activiteiten die we hebben. Lees dus vooral goed de website door, als je ons nog niet kent, voordat je je bij ons aanmeldt.
Overige kwalificaties zijn:
- leeftijd 16 - 25 jaar
- goede beheersing van de Nederlandse en Engelse taal
- interesse in kunst en de achtergronden van kunst
- interesse in óf communicatie over kunst naar een publiek van 8 - 80 jaar oud, óf in tentoonstellingsinrichting en - productie
- interesse in het produceren van items over de MAMA-tentoonstellingen in tekst en (audiovisueel) beeld

Mama will be starting the selection for her new draft of Rookies, MAMA's special training-course for her volunteers.
In this project a select group of MAMA-volunteers will be trained by MAMA staff and specially hired professionals in assisting in different functions within the arts.
Volunteers have always been very important, they make MAMA able to create successful exhibitions and extra events. They are MAMA-hosts in the showroom and make sure the showroom is spic and span, arrange that everything works and supply information about MAMA and the expositions to guests of all ages and from all around the world. Volunteers also distribute promotion material, take care of transportation in the Netherlands and internationally and install the expositions, together with the artists, (guest-) curator and production-leader.
What will the MAMA-Rookies project hold in store for you?
In September the project will start with individual interviews involving the current and new MAMA-volunteers. Based on motivation, qualities, skills and interests the selected volunteers, the so-called MAMA- Rookies, will be classified for specific workshops. Participation is free of charge, but not without commitment. In other words: MAMA invests in you, you invest in MAMA. You do so by following the course and by working for a year approximately five hours a week as volunteer at MAMA. There is space for a maximum of twentyfive volunteers in this course.
From September on there will be a series of workshops offered. For all Rookies there is a basic-workshop ‘internal and external communication'. After this you choose a follow-up course: education and hosting; development of communication-material or the workshop exhibition-installation. The workshops also involve some homework and there will be assignments to do in your own time. What has been taught will be put to use by the Rookies in real life, during the projects that MAMA programs throughout the coming year. Everything that goes right or wrong will be discussed and evaluated.
At the end of the run every MAMA-Rookie that has successfully fulfilled the course will receive a certificate. This means you are qualified by us to support in different assisting functions at professional art-institutions.
How to become a MAMA-Rookie...

Other qualifications are:
- Age: 16 - 25 years old
- You have a thorough command of the Dutch and English language
- Interest in art and its contexts
- Interest in communicating art to an audience from 8 - 80 years old, or in exhibition organization and production.
- Interest in producing items about the MAMA-exhibitions in written word and (audio-visual) image.
