Purno Poseert!
Op initiatief van MAMA is er in het kinderhoofdkwartier (Villa Zebra) van Rotterdam 2001, Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa een bijzondere tentoonstelling geopend door een bekende Nederlander: Purno de Purno. Purno de Purno is een digitaal karaktertje dat begin jaren negentig via de VILA ACHTERWERK van de VPRO-jeugdtelevisie wereldberoemd werd.
Voor de tentoonstelling heeft mama 12 kunstenaars uitgenodigd om Purno ‘te portretteren’. Ze komen uit alle denkbare disciplines: fotografen, architecten, modeontwerpers & animatoren. Het resultaat is een caleidoscopische kakofonie van kunstige impressies geworden. Het reikt het kind een scala van mogelijkheden aan om zich te uiten. In de tentoonstelling ‘Purno Poseert!’ worden de bezoekertjes door Purno uitgedaagd om niet alleen te kijken: ze moeten vooral allerlei dingen doen.
Zo heeft de nieuwe media kunstenaar Geert Mul en de animatoren Cosh en Arno Coenen een heus Purno-drumstel gefabriceerd. Slaat men op dit drumstel, dan verschijnen filmfragmenten van animatoren Cosh en Arno Coenen. Zo monteert men bij iedere slag een unieke film, geprojecteerd op 6 verschillende schermen. Kinderen kunnen lekker springen en dansen in de ÒBoomboxÓ van het architectenduo Marc & Nicole Maurer terwijl ze naar de laatste Purnocarnavals-kraker SI SA SO SAPPEREDOSIO!! luisteren.
Purno de Purno en zijn wondere universum spreekt niet alleen kinderen aan. Hij is door de jaren heen ook uitgegroeid tot een cultfiguur van menig vader en moeder, tante zus en oom. Het moge dan ook duidelijk zijn dat de expositie ook geschikt is voor het hele gezin.
Purno Doceert!
In mei 2002 eindigt de experimentele fase van het project Purno. Er wordt goed naar de kinderen geluisterd wat hen nou beviel en of ze iets hebben opgestoken van de tentoonstelling. Daarna worden alle basisscholen in Rotterdam door Purno en de Stichting Kunstzinnige Vorming Rotterdam SKVR uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan het educatieve gedeelte ‘Purno Doceert!’. Speciaal voor de midden- en bovenbouwgroepen van scholen heeft MAMA de SKVR gevraagd om samen met haar kunstenaars een serie workshops te ontwikkelen om kinderen op geheel eigen manier aan de slag te laten gaan met Purno.
De centrumscholen in de stad zullen worden uitgenodigd naar de expositie te komen om te participeren. De klassen gaan op bezoek in Villa Zebra en worden aangespoord om in de klas zelf kunst te maken, T-shirts te ontwerpen of zelf animaties te maken.
Reizen is voor veel kinderen een probleem. Daarom komt Purno naar d’e kinderen toe die eigenlijk te ver weg wonen van het centrum van Rotterdam. Vanaf september 2002 pakt hij de hele tentoonstelling in en gaat met twee containers op reis naar de buitenste wijken van Rotterdam zoals Hoogvliet en Hoek van Holland

Purno Poses!
At the initiative of MAMA, a special exhibition was opened at the Kids Headquarters of Rotterdam 2001, European Cultural Capital ( Villa Zebra) by a a well-known Dutch celebrity, Purno de Purno. Purno de Purno is a digital character that became known around the world via the ‘Villa Achterwerk’ on the VPRO Youth Television channel.
For the exhibition MAMA invited 12 artists to do ‘portraits’ of Purno. They came form all possible disciplines: photography, achitecture, fashion design and animation. The result was a kaleidoscopic cacophony of impressions. It reached out to children trying to express itself through a range of possibilities. In the exhibition ‘Purno Poses!’ the little visitors were dared by Purno not only to look; above all else they needed to do things.
Thus the new media artist Geert Mul and the animators Cosh and Arno Coenen built a real drum set for Purno. If one played on this drum set, film sequences by the animators appeared. Thus one could create a unique film –projected on 6 different screens- with each beat on the drums. The kids could jump and dance nicely to the latest Purno smash hit, ‘Si Sa So Sapperdosio!’ in the ‘Boobox’ by architect duo Marc & Nicole Mauerer.
Purno de Purno and his magical universe didn’t only speak to kids. Over the years he has grown into something of a cult figure for many a father and mother, aunt and uncle. It should be easy to see that the exhibition was made for the whole family.
Purno Teaches!
In May 2002, the experimental phase of the Purno project ended. Children were listened to carefully about what they felt or about what that took from the exhibition. Afterwards, all secondary schools in Rotterdam were invited by Purno and the Rotterdam Foundation for Artistic Education (Stichting Kunstzinnige Vorming Rotterdam), SKVR to take part in the educational part of the project, ‘Purno Teaches!’.
MAMA had asked the SKVR to develop a series of workshops together with artists specially for the middle and senior groups to engage with Purno in entirely their own way. The central schools in the city would be invited to come and participate in the exhibition. The classes went to visit Villa Zebra and were encouraged to make works of art within the class itself, to make t-shirts or design animations themselves.
Since travelling is a problem for many children, Purno went to the kids who ultimately lived too far from the centre of Rotterdam. From September 2002, the whole exhibition was packed into two containers and went on tour to the most outlying neighbourhoods of Rotterdam such as Hoogvliet and Hoek van Holland.
