Als onderdeel van het curatoren-programma van Art Rotterdam organiseert Showroom
MAMA sinds 2003 een serie art-talks. Dit jaar de volgende onderwerpen:
All in the Family
Het familieportret lijkt terug van weggeweest. Vanuit kunsthistorisch opzicht
is het een notoir klassiek thema. Wat is de betekenis van de familie en het familieportret
in de praktijk van een aantal aanstormende kunstenaars?

Mr Miyagi Graduation-day
Naast de Appel brengt MAMA sinds 2005 een curatoren programma voor jonge tentoonstellingsmakers:
‘Mr Miyagi, Curating Tomorrow'. Zes Nederlandse deelnemers maakten onlangs
een tentoonstelling van eindexamenwerk uit de Benelux. In de Unie presenteren
zij hun project Spacequake aan het publiek en verdedigen hun keuze aan een panel
van professionals. Waarna de langverwachte diploma uitreiking plaats vindt!

UK), Bettina Carl (artist/curator CAPRI Berlin, GER), Annie Fletcher (curator/
head CTP de Appel Amsterdam, NL), Rein Wolfs (Museum Boijmans van Beuningen
Rotterdam, NL) and the graduates of Mr Miyagi 2005.
Did Ipod kill the Videostar?
Was de videoclip begin jaren tachtig het gespreksonderwerp van het schoolplein,
tegenwoordig lijkt de verveling toegeslagen met dit eerst zo razend populaire
medium.
Toch is er een generatie kunstenaars die de videoclip als uitgangspunt neemt
voor hun werk en met succes. Wat drijft vrouwen als Janine Rostron (Planningtorock)
en Heidi Kilpelainen (HK119)? En hoe gaan ze om met een dubbele carrière
in zowel kunst als muziek?

Besides de Appel MAMA brings a curatorial training programme for young exhibition
makers: ‘Mr Miyagi, Curating Tomorrow’. Six Dutch participants have
jointly composed an exhibition from their selection of graduate work from the
Benelux. In the Unie they present their project Spacequake to the audience and
will defend their choices to a panel of professionals, after which they will
receive the long awaited certificate.

nowadays the boredom with the videoclip seems inevitable. Still a new generation
of artists takes the videoclip as a starting point of their work... and with
success.
