MAMA, organiseert twee gesprekken over beeldende kunst.
Deze gesprekken zijn onderdeel van het 'visiting curators program' van ArtRotterdam.

'Artist-Curator/Curator-Artist'
Als eerste wordt ingegaan op persoonlijke
ervaringen van kunstenaars en curatoren die de praktijk van kunstenaar/curator combineren. Is dit gemakzucht van de curators of heeft de hedendaagse kunstenaar de totale tentoonstellingsruimte en werk van anderen nodig om ‘zijn verhaal’ te vertellen?

• Edgar Schmitz, kunstenaar en criticus;
  
• Ian White, curator/beeldend kunstenaar, Londen;
  
• Milika Muritu, kunstenaar en directeur Cell Project Space, Londen,
  
• Nelly Voorhuis, Nelly Voorhuis, director of Atelier HSL (kunst- en cultuurprogramma gerelateerd aan de constructie van de Hoge Snelheid Lijn-Zuid)., assistent professor aan de Media & Cultuur afdeling van de universiteit van Amsterdam.

'Seeing the Wood for the Trees'

In het tweede debat wordt de recente ‘revival’ van de natuur in de hedendaagse kunst onderzocht. Waarom zijn onderwerpen als landschappen en een romantische beleving van de natuur na lange tijd weer terug? Wat kan de kunstgeschiedenis ons hierover leren?

MAMA has organised two discussions on visual art topics. These discussions form part of MAMA's collaboration with ArtRotterdam, forming part of the 'visiting curators programme'.

'Artist-Curator/Curator-Artist'
The first examines the personal experiences of artists and curators who combine the roles of artist and curator. Is this curatorial expedience or does the contemporary artist need the entire exhibition space and work of others to tell his or her story?

Including:

• Edgar Schmitz, artist and critic (London/Berlin);
  
• Ian White, curator/artist, (London);
  
• Milika Muritu, artist and co-director Cell Project Space, (London)
  
• Nelly Voorhuis, director of Atelier HSL (arts and culture programme in connection with the construction of the High Speed Line-South) & Assistant Professor, Media & Culture Department, University of Amsterdam.

'Seeing the Wood for the Trees'

The second discussion examines the recent revival of 'nature' in contemporary art. Why are subjects like landscape and a romantic depiction of nature back after a long time? Are we able to learn anything from art history that might offer insight?
