In de ruim twaalf jaar van haar bestaan heeft MAMA zich ontpopt als een spraakmakend en invloedrijk podium, waar een breed publiek een eigenzinnige, caleidoscopische visie op de hedendaagse beeldcultuur kan zien en ervaren.
MAMA ontwikkelde zich direct tot expert op het gebied van jongeren- en hedendaagse beeldcultuur en stond in Nederland aan de basis van een actieve, op participatie gerichte ontwikkeling in de kunst. De primaire doelgroep, 16-26 jarigen, is vanaf het begin actief binnen de organisatie. MAMA ontwikkelde voor hen in 2005 / 2006 twee onderwijstrajecten met als oogmerk talentontwikkeling: MAMA Rookies, een traject voor ondersteunende functies in het culturele veld en Rookies MA (voorheen Mister Miyagi Curating Tomorrow), gericht op het zelf organiseren en samenstellen van tentoonstellingen.
MAMA wordt veelvuldig geraadpleegd
door particuliere-, overheids- en kunstinstellingen voor advies, participatie in projecten en workshops. In haar programma en haar onderwijstrajecten werkt de organisatie dan ook vaak samen met andere culturele instellingen in binnen- en buitenland.
Partners waarmee MAMA werkt(e) zijn o.a.: Stichting Art Rotterdam, Stichting Rotterdam Festivals, Stichting Nieuwe Rotterdamse Cultuur, Stichting Kunstzinnige Vorming Rotterdam, Stichting Rotterdamse Museumnacht, Stichting Centrum Beeldende Kunst, het Nederlands Architectuur instituut, de Internationale Architectuur Biennale Rotterdam, Historisch Museum het Schielandshuis, Internationaal Film Festival Rotterdam, diverse onderwijsinstellingen zoals de Koninklijke Academie in Den Haag, de Willem de Kooning Academie Rotterdam, het Grafisch Lyceum Rotterdam, de Hogeschool Rotterdam en vele kunstenaars, galeries en collectieven. Internationaal is MAMA actief in het samenwerken met andere "artist led organisations" in een Europese context. In 2004 was MAMA een van de initiatiefnemers van het Stability Mobility Netwerk, met als doel het delen van kennis met betrekking tot "good practices". In 2008 organiseerde MAMA Project(or) Art Fair met deelname van 28 internationale projectruimtes, initiatieven en jonge galeries, aansluitend bij Art Rotterdam.
MAMA is als internationale presentatie-instelling voor de periode 2009-2012 opgenomen in de basisinfrastructuur van het Ministerie van OCW. De Gemeente Rotterdam ondersteunt MAMA vanuit haar Cultuurplan 2009-2012. Overige veelal terugkerende subsidiënten en sponsoren zijn Mondriaan Stichting, Stimuleringsfonds voor de Architectuur, dienst Kunst en Cultuur, VSBfonds, Stichting Bevordering van Volkskracht, Stichting Doen en Stichting Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.

MAMA exists for more than twelve years now and has turned into a much discussed and influential platform offering an intractable, kaleidoscopic view on contemporary visual culture to be seen and experienced by a broad audience.
MAMA soon developed into an expert in the field of youth- and contemporary visual culture and found itself at the foundation of an active development in Dutch art, aimed at participation. The original target group aged 16 - 26, has been active in the organization from the beginning. In 2005 / 2006 MAMA developed two educational courses intended to develop talent: MAMA Rookies, a course for auxiliary jobs in the cultural field and Rookies MA (formerly Mister Miyagi Curating Tomorrow), aimed at youth organizing and compiling exhibitions independently.
MAMA is often consulted by private-, governmental- and art institutes for advice, participation in projects and for workshops. In its programme and educational courses the organization frequently collaborates with other cultural institutions at home and abroad.

As an international presentation institute, MAMA has been included in the basic infrastructure of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The Rotterdam Council supports MAMA with its Cultureplan 2009-2012.
